Farewell To 2015 Racers and Collectors Reflect

It's only a few hours and another year will be over. You had a good year but it is nice to look forward to an even better 2016, but before we pass on to the new and improved here's a really good review of the past year as well as the past in general from Hagerty insurance.

This video has something for everyone, I guarantee it.  You may feel a bit emotional as you watch and the memories flood in from times gone by, or you may get excited about the prospect of a new project you are about to embark on in 2016.

Before you see the video- here's my big New Year's present to my two 'children'.-  My Boxster and the GTA finally get to sleep in the garage again after being out in the cold every night for two weeks while I unpacked after moving in to our newly remodeled house.   The Boxster is no longer giving up space for boxes!

Enjoy this end of year video and see how many of these cars or tricks you have owned!  Farewell to the legends in the video- we will miss you!

We have come a long way but the journey is never over!

All I Want For Christmas

What do you want?  Fill in the blank with whatever- from a Porsche to world peace.  It can be anything, but this is the time of the year we reflect back and see what happened this year and hopefully some of what we want will come true.  du  Pont Registry Cars & Coffee in St. Petersburg FL is a good place to get ideas as to what he or she might want.

                                                             Special Mention

For every Porsche fan, a  new 911 would not be bad, but in the case of one lucky Porsche Club of America member who won the lottery allowing him to buy a 60th anniversary  Porsche 911 GTS Club Coupe in Club Blau, that takes the top gift of the year.  There will only be 60 produced to mark Porsche's 60th anniversary, so you could say that's a unique Christmas gift.

In the case of everyone else out there here's some pictures that will get you dreaming of some cool 'toys' for you.  I've included a link to the Hans Peter Porsche web site of fabulous toys. If you are into modeling and toys, could be considered the best in the world.   Santa- are you listening?  Readers of this blog may be emailing you today with their wish list.

From the December 19th Cars & Coffee. I present these suggestions:

DuPont Registry Cars & Coffee October 2015 and Look Alike Shots

You can tell fall is here.  This morning's monthly dose of Cars & Coffee came with gloriously cool, dry weather, perfect for a car show.  It was nice to feel the cool air rushing in the open windows of the Boxster as I drove over from Indian Shores at 5:30 in the morning.  Too cool for the top to be down but very refreshing. I came across a green GTR as we cruised down 118th Ave.  You could hear the rat tat tat exhaust from the GTR as he downshifted for the red light and I could hear the synchronized wine of my engine slowing for the same light. On launch from the light there were two different songs playing from the engines and both were so good you didn't want to have a radio on to spoil the effect. The GTR was headed for the same destination.

With fall comes a late dawn so there's a lot of time to take what I call Halloween shots of the cars- this is when you can get a spooky effect from the lighting, so that's a bonus for the October show.

I have posted a few pictures from this show and now that I've caught up on remodeling the house I had a little time to look through my car magazines. While checking them out I came across two particularly interesting pictures, one the cover shot on the latest issue of Grassroots Motorsports and the other, an ad for Falken Tires in the latest Car & Driver. I call these look alike shots comparing them with ones I took this summer at Watkins Glen.

These were so similar I had to post them here as a curiosity.

Enjoy the change in weather if you live in Florida- If you live up North, sorry as the car shows are pretty much over for this year.

Classic Machines Built To Last Porsche and Electrolux

Have fun with this post:

So what does a vacuum cleaner have to do with Porsche cars?   A lot.  The premise of building something for a single purpose, making it simple and bulletproof in its engineering and then stick to that original receipt is what these two companies have in common.  It has served them well.

It is funny that in our family, I have a Porsche and my wife has an Electrolux- in fact 5 of them.  I'm still trying to get my second Porsche but that would be a serious discussion with my lovely Electrolux fan.

So here's the latest addition to our Electrolux collection-  A model 2100.  All I could find regarding the age was on the attached chart - built somewhere between 1986 and 2006. Not precise but it is a rough guide. I have also included a picture of an old standby that we use weekly and then a rough, ready to be restored 'barn find'.   The other two models in the collection are in New York getting a work out at the house up there. One of them we believe is from the 50's and is what I call the sled because of the rails it rides on instead of wheels that make it look like a bullet sled.

These are serious machines- still functional after decades of use! I'd put them in a class with Porsche, or Rolex, or say Mount Blanc!

And for those that want a good primer on Porsche history and car values see the attached video- It is worth the 35 minutes of education!

Check out the model history of Electrolux- going back to 1924.
